So my roommate has left for Virginia; and left the dog home with me. The dog was yowling this morning and woke me 1/2 an hour before my alarm was due to go off. If that is the worst I have to put up I will be ok with that. So after kicking the dog (I didn't actually kick the dog) I headed into work early to crash the network.

I saw Star Wars for the second time last night. It is still funny and is still worth seeing for the special effects. But twice in theater is all I can handle. The cheesy parts are cheesier the second time around.

What am I going to do on this long holiday weekend? Absolutely nothing. I was busy all last weekend. This weekend is time for me to relax and level my toons in Warcraft.

I saw Star Wars last night. It is one of those movies that is so bad it is good. I can't wait to watch it at home with my friends so we can rip on it without annoying all the other people in the theater.

Then after a day at work dealing with power outage issues I got home at 1 AM last night. Then I read a book I had that I was almost finished with and could not sleep until 3 A.M. Then it is up at 7 AM this morning and my tattoo I had touched up yesterday is killing me.

So now it is 8:30 AM and I am in pain, tired, and not in the work mood and I still have crap from yesterday's outage to clean up. Today is a bad day.

Mini con report.

Had a lot of fun.

Wish I would have taken more pictures.

I will sort through and delete my repeat pictures and those that just really sucked and then try to resize the rest and post them along with a full con report. Most likely this will be Friday's Rant portion of the front page.

So IdFungus and I are going to a Mini-Con called Majesticon. You can see their page here. www.majesticon.com

In addition to that are a couple of other cons going on at the same time.

First we have:

*Avistrum's Academy of Sorcery

This is a Harry Potter convention where the name of the Denver chapter of Wizard school is Avistrum. This will be going on all weekend and involves all sorts of classes such as Defense of the Dark Arts.

Then we have:

*PentaCon—Magic & Metaphysical

This is real witches a talking about their real magic and metaphysic discussions. These geeks are more scary than anything else.

But if that wasn't enough geeks in one room, finally we have:

*Starfleet Region 17 Summit

Yes, we will have Trekkies there to.

Over all I am definitely glad I am bringing my camera and I think I should have some very interesting shots to show when I am done.

Woke up this morning at 7:10 to one of the company’s managers calling me to let me know he can not get to his e-mail so the whole network must be down. I get to work about 15 minutes later and run some tests.

Hmm, it seems he is right. I walked into my server room and noticed right away none of the servers are turned on. That is usually not a good sign.

The problem was caused by the fact that we had a power outage last night that exceeded the life of the battery backup. After the batteries completely discharged and power was restored the APC ran into some issues and never restored power to the servers.

I have since bypassed the batteries and brought the servers back up but I lost a hard drive in the process. Now I have to come back tonight and work after everyone has gone home and try and figure out why the batteries did not come back online after power was restored.

What a pain in the ass.

I saw Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy this weekend. What an awesome movie. Yes it is different from the latest unabridged collection of books but when has Douglas Adams ever created a version of the story that was not different.

In fact I saw this quote talking to the excutive producer, Robbie Stamp, of the movie and discussing the changes that Douglas Adams made to his story in his original screenplay.

The script we shot was very much based on the last draft that Douglas wrote. I was also able to make available to Jay Roach and Karey Kirkpatrick many back story notes and ideas from Douglas' hard drive and Karey also had of course the book and the radio series to work with. All the substantive new ideas in the movie, Humma, the Point of View Gun and the "paddle slapping sequence" on Vogsphere are brand new Douglas ideas written especially for the movie by him. Karey came to be in awe of Douglas' genius and saw his role as primarily structural. Even the enhanced relationship between Arthur and Trillian (in which people seem to have detected the hand of the Studio) was something that Douglas was working on as well. As you yourself recognize in your question, Douglas was always up for reinventing HHGG in each of its different incarnations and he knew that working harder on some character development and some of the key relationships was an integral part of turning HHGG into a movie.
